Studio 2
Basic Audio Recording & Editing
About Studio 2
There are multiple ways of recording and editing audio in Studio 2, depending on whether you need to record something quickly and easily, or you are aiming for a higher-quality and polished final product. If you prefer speed over quality, you might be more interested in a Level 1 method of recording. If you prefer quality over speed, you would probably benefit more from a Level 4 method of recording. If you want something in between, you should consider a Level 2 or Level 3 method of recording.
Level 1
iPhone Voice Memos App
If you have an iPhone, you can use a built-in app called "Voice Memos" to record audio extremely easily and quickly. You can record through your iPhone's built-in microphone, or you can sign out a microphone from the library that can be plugged directly into your iPhone.
Quickest Setup Speed = Lowest Quality
Level 2
Sony ICD-PX370 Recorder
For a decent-quality, but fairly quick recording, you can sign out a Sony handheld recorder from the library. This recorder has a built-in USB drive, so when you are done recording, you can plug the device directly into your computer to instantly receive your recorded audio files.
Medium Setup Speed = Medium Quality
Level 3
Zoom H4n Handy Recorder
This recorder provides two ways of capturing audio. You can use the device's built-in microphones, or you can use the Shure SM58 microphones that are already connected to this device in Studio 2. If need be, this recorder can also be taken out of Studio 2 to be used elsewhere.
Long Setup Speed = High Quality
Level 4
Electro-Voice RE320
This high-end dynamic microphone is connected to a PreSonus StudioLive AR16 USB mixer. Together, these two devices can be used to achieve professional quality audio recordings. This method allows you to have the highest degree of control over your recordings.
Longest Setup Speed = Highest Quality
